Study of leadership and team dynamics in a computer game simulation

It’s time to play! This is a study of leadership and team dynamics that takes place in a game designed to be both fun and educational.

Log in from home and join a team of survivors who just crash landed on an island. Help each other forage for food, build shelter, and survive the perils of the island! In the process, learn about yourself as a team member and about team dynamics in general. Who knows, you may even be assigned the role of leader…

Including the online surveys, this study will take approximately 40 minutes. Some of the tasks such as reading the instructions, installing the game client, and filling out a pretest survey, can be completed at your convenience before the study starts. The session itself consists of one 20 minute game. There is a short survey to complete after the game. A facilitator will be present during the game to assist you with any technical questions. The game client is fairly intuitive and you do not need to be an expert video game player to participate in this study!

Participants who complete the study will be included in a lottery drawing for in-game money. There will be two prizes, one for the team that progresses the farthest and one randomly awarded prize.
